[Largeformat] Re: First Post, Deardorff Questions
From: Lee Carmichael <click@flash.net>
Hi Elliot:
I can not speak to all of your questions but I can say that I spent 2
weeks in the Backcountry of the Big Bend National Park (right on the
Texas/Mexico border) in Aug and I managed to haul the Deardorff 8x10 (a
friends) from the truck to the set up and back in 90 to 110 degree heat and
survived. I believe the Tripod weighed as much as the camera and the box
with all the lens in it was huge. Needless to say, it required several
trips and those trips were not very far at all. I believe that Brett
Weston was quoted as saying, "If it is more than 500 yards off the road, it
is not photogenic". On that trip I certainly subscribed to that axiom.
I have never seen or lifted an 11x14 Deardorff. Maybe Ken Hough could
respond to that. Are you wanting to explore Alternitive photographic
processes? I have no experience with that but I know of several that make
prints and have them scanned and digitally enhanced and then outputted to
negative form via an imagesetter. From that they make their silver gelatin
or alt process prints. Seems like a lot of work and from where I sit
rather expensive too.
