[Largeformat] All about Packard shutters
From: "Ken Hough" <k4sb@niia.net>
Ok guys,
Here is how I optimize a Packard Shutter.
Hose : Any good well supplied auto parts store has this. I my town I use a mom
and pop
store . They have a wide variety. I use up to 3/8 OD to be able to move alot of air
through
it. I can get speeds on a 5 1/2 inch packard approching 1/25 sec. Thats really
fast. On the
other hand the large hose and a Stiff bulb allows control in pulling the piston back
when
doing long exposures. There is less drag.
How to clean and optimize:
Take the piston out and POLISH it w / Brasso till it looks like a mirror. Use 400 grit
emory
on the edges of the blades. Wire brush the Inside of the metal halves and paint
them w/ a
high gloss black paint. The outside w/ flatblack...
Spray the blades w/ lemon pledge furniture polish . let sit 1/2 hr wipe off .
Reassemble and
use it .
