[Largeformat] Wollansak softness ?
From: "Ken Hough" <k4sb@niia.net>
My therory is this:
Alot of us users have experienced the low contrast Wollansak lenses. Try looking through
one of these lenses at a high intensity light. See the haze ? Both on the front surface of the
glass and between the elements in the cement. I can't tell you how many I've recemented
only to turn these junkers into a great lens. Wollansak used a very strange themo setting
cement that was great for 10 years and then turns cloudy. I bought a brand new sealed in
the box 12 in. convertable once. I waited a few months to cut the tape. When I did open it
up, the lens was opaque with haze.. This happened to me again 3 years later. Both lenses are
recemented and shoot fine. With not a single cleaning mark on either !!
