The tool Clive referred to is a Quick Disc.  Philipp Salzgeber, who
developed it, still has it on his site for free downloading.  Because it
is round, it makes no difference whether it shows totally on your ground
glass.  You measure the widest area of the disc on the ground glass,
with the ruler that is included.  I laminated and cut it out, rather
than glue it to cardboard.  Handy device.
