Re: [Largeformat] METERS for Large format work
From: JIB <jbuf@ix.netcom.com>
Dear Kristin;
If you are going to do largeformat, then you really need a spotmeter. There are 4 spotmeters that come to mind. The Sekonic 508, the Pentax digital spot, the Minolta Spotmeter F. and the gossen ultraspot II. All of these meters are very nice
indeed. I have owned and used all of them except for the Sekonic, but I hear great things about the Sekonic. But, somce i do not have any praactical experience with it I can not talk about it except to say that is both a incident and spot meter.. The
Minolta is the least expensive of the group and Gossen is the most. The pentax is a very acurate meter by which a lot of people swear, I think that for the money that they ask for it, it is limited. As far as I am concerned I think that the Gossen and
Minolta meters are he ones to consider. Both of these meters do everything, including flash. They are both very accurate, there are 2 things that make the Gossen worth almost $200 more to me. With both the Pentax and the Minolta, You put the meter up
to your eye to take a meter reading and then you have to look at a little panel on the side to get the f stop and shutter speed. With the Gossen everything is done in the illunminated viewfinder. The other outstanding feature of the Gossen is that is
it factory calibrated for the Zone system. So you do not have to carry any charts or anything, to be abke to use the zone system witht his meter.
