Since I don't believe in Gremlins, this makes about the most sense.  I don't 
cross contaminate containers, graduates, etc., but perhaps a few drops of 
fixer found their way into the developer.  I did pour the developer first 
and it was nearby in an open container.  I'm usually very careful about 
these things, but ...

Thanks for that piece of wisdom Karl!  I'll certainly pay more attention in 
the future.
