Larry,
Do a search on the Kodak site for "airport". They have a FAQ, images
of x-ray fogged film, etc.

The problem is on both ends. A lead bag will trigger higher output
from the new baggage scanners.
The best approach is to write the airline in advance and get a letter
from them stating that it is alright for your film to be hand
inspected.
In your case, a phone call and faxed letter would work. Try to get
them to write it in English and Spanish.
For the trip back, I have sealed the film boxes again with tape. I
also include a label of my own that states " Photographic film. Do not
expose to light." I believe the correct translation is: "Pel’cula
fotogr‡fica. No exponga a la luz."
Also, at some airports, I have found when transporting sheet film that
I set off a different alarm. At least here, Chicago's O'Hare, I set
off a scanner that is looking for explosives. They use some type of
cotton swab to check my carry on bag and sometimes my hands. Though
this has never occurred with roll film.
Naturally pad the heck out of the camera, etc. I try to give my
lenses a little extra protection. I place them in plastic (aka
tupperware) containers with padding inside.
