Thanks for the info.  I've gone the camera store route and tried
several filters and step up rings and I've come to the conclusion that
Steve Grimes offers the best solution.  I guess I'll have to hold
filters in front of the lens until I get the adapter from Steve.

Hello Drew,

Well it just so happens that I keep a 14" Red Dot Artar by my bed
just in
case I'm caught short during the night ;-)

46mm internal diameter and 51.4 outer diameter at the business end.
The
internal threads are for the front element retaining ring ie very
fine
threads and not for a filter.

A strap on job will be the answer if you don't like holding Cokin
style
filters in front of the glass. Seem to recall that Steve Grimes does make
a
slip on filter holder for screw thread glass filters so you may want to
buy
one of his solutions.
