Re: [Largeformat] Photo trip to the South West (was Re. Red Dot Artar 14" f:9)

Over the last 20 years, Phoenix has grown considerably, both in size and in
sophistication. We have earned some interesting architecture, and have many
more ethnic and good quality restaurants. Saguaro National Monument, near
Tucson is beautiful and unique (Arizona is the only place in the world where
saguaros are indigenous).

That said, I would not waste a few days out of two weeks to come down to
Phoenix, or for that matter, to go to Flagstaff. If you wish to see the
Grand canyon, the North Rim is much prettier, more photogenic, and less
populated than is the South Rim. It is also much closer to Zion, Bryce
Canyon, and all of the other wonderful National Parks in Utah. I would
recommend Arches NP and also Cedar Breaks Nat'l Monument (considered a minor
park, but it is beautiful, and at 9000 ft of elevation, quite cool).

Arizona has its own share of beauty, but if you're arriving in LV and
driving through Utah, I would not take the time to visit Arizona (other than
the North Rim).
